freud-uncanny

In Freud’s Uncanny, he tells a story of a man who during his childhood was told the tale of the Sandman. The story contained characters such as demons and other fictional creatures. Like many childhood stories, the story stayed with the man throughout his life, but he became haunted by it. As children we are very impressionable. We see everything as living beings, even if it’s an inanimate object such as a doll. What we see and absorb as children helps us process what we experience later in life. Childhood is what shapes us into who we are today and how we deal.
